Even and Odd Numbers

In this tutorial students will learn about the characteristics of even and odd numbers. The students will learn about the sum of 2 even numbers, the sum of 2 odd numbers and sum of an even and an odd number.

All even numbers have a divisor of 2

All even numbers also have a either a 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 in the one’s place.

All odd numbers do not have a divisor of 2.

All odd numbers also have a either a 1, 3, 5, 7 or 9 in the one’s place.

Even + Even = Even

The sum of 2 even numbers is always even.

2+6=8

Odd + Odd = Even

The sum of 2 odd numbers is always odd.

1+3=4

Odd + Even = Odd

The sum of an odd and an even number is always odd.

7+4=11

FUN FACT

The sum of consecutive odd numbers are perfect squares.

1 = 1
1 + 3 = 4 = 2 x 2
1 + 3 + 5 = 9 = 3 x 3
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 = 16 = 4 x 4
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 = 25 = 5 x 5
1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 11= 36 = 6 x 6
